Milford Select Board Unanimously Rejects Extended Alcohol Hours Under New State Law

Milford Select Board votes unanimously to opt out of new state extended-hours alcohol law. The board, chaired by Paul Mazzuchelli, declined Monday to participate in Governor Maura Healey's recently signed pilot legislation that would allow licensed establishments to serve until 3 a.m. and permit local authorities to designate public outdoor drinking zones. O'Loughlin Esq., a former police chief, said the extension would effectively keep patrons on premises until nearly 4 a.m. on Fridays, and noted that Town Administrator Richard A. Villani Esq. had relayed the police chief's opposition to both provisions. Member Michael K.

Walsh said he saw "no benefit at all" for Milford's businesses or community. In other business, the board approved all-alcohol license transfers for the Sons of Italy Dramatic and Sportsman Club at 55 Depot Street and Central Street Market, received word that the Route 109/Beaver Street/Interstate 95 off-ramp intersection project is eligible for $2,775,000 in federal highway funding, and awarded a $48,890 painting contract to May's Remodeling Group for interior doors and trim at Milford Town Hall.
