School Building Panel Caps Town Cost at $200 Million
Other Committee · Meeting of September 9, 2026
Milford's high school building committee tells Finance Committee the town's share could hit $200 million, double a prior estimate. School Building Committee Chairman Jonathan Bruce said the only firm cost figure so far is $376 million for a base-repair option, and that the design team has been told the town's obligation "cannot exceed $200 million." Finance Director Zach separately projected $4.2 million in fiscal 2026 free cash and $41.1 million across town stabilization funds, pending state certification. One Finance Committee member asked, "Would you spend whatever that number is on a roof of a building that's functionally, educationally obsolete?" No votes were taken on the school project; the Finance Committee did approve its prior minutes, 6-0 with two abstentions, and voted unanimously to adjourn.
The two boards plan a joint session September 23, ahead of building-committee votes on a preferred design October 14 and 21.
