Milford panel narrows school options, OKs $129,722 warrant
Other Committee · Meeting of September 23, 2026
Milford's high school building committee narrowed its rebuild options to five finalists ahead of an Oct. 6 public forum, while approving a $129,722.22 warrant and a $614.80 timesheet. Architects and the project's owner's manager, identified as James, said a full "base repair" of the current building would take eight or nine phases and run into hundreds of millions of dollars, versus a more efficient new build. Principal Josh warned the existing school's class schedule "can't" support vocational, or Chapter 74, programs without students giving up electives like music or a foreign language.
Debate over two options that would leave the 94-year-old pool and gym unrenovated drew the sharpest pushback: one member called the scenario "terrifying," citing ADA access and long-term heating costs. Cost estimates for all five options, and a vote on a preferred design, are due at the committee's Oct. 14 meeting.
