Finance Committee reviews mid-year financials, projects sewer rate increase

MILFORD — Finance Committee reviews mid-year financials and sewer fund decline. Finance Director Zack Taylor reported certified free cash of $6.4 million last year with approximately $1 million remaining after town meeting allocations. The sewer enterprise fund's retained earnings have fallen below $1 million for the first time in years, prompting Taylor to anticipate a rate increase, the first in more than 15 years.
The committee also heard from Brian Long, Chair of the Milford Public Transportation Committee, that regional bus ridership is nearing 2019 levels with annual program costs of approximately $100,000. Subcommittees reported approximately $500,000 in completed school articles and $120,000 from finished library articles, with $9.5 million in total unexpended funds across open articles.
