Committee rejects full GLP1 coverage in medical plan renewal
Insurance Advisory Committee · Meeting of January 28, 2026
Milford Insurance Advisory Committee rejects full GLP1 coverage in medical renewal. Chair Peter Filosa convened the 5-member meeting, which voted unanimously to turn down Blue Cross Blue Shield's 14.4 percent rate offer that would extend weight-loss GLP1 medications to all employees and family members. The town is negotiating for a rate increase below 10 percent, though HR Director Kristin Melpignano cautioned that high claims utilization makes a meaningful reduction unlikely.
The committee also unanimously approved renewals of vision, employee assistance, and Colonial short-term disability plans at current rates, with the EAP increasing 5 percent to $2.10 per contract.
